Easter: NGO to fete IDPs, widows in Abuja

A non-governmental organization (NGO) based in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has concluded plans to put a smile on the faces of over 300 widows, 20 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), and children as part of its reach-out programme for the Easter celebration.
The group, Sure Smiles Women and Children Advocacy Initiative in a statement issued by its President, Mrs. Chioma Uzo-udegbunam and made available to our correspondent, said the programme will kick-off tomorrow as part of activities

marking the Easter celebration.
According to Uzo-udegbunam, this year’s theme: “Touch a Life, Make a Difference”, was carefully chosen to put smile on the faces of the less privileged in the society, adding that emphasis would be placed on the health challenges of the Internally Displaced Persons in the territory.
“The essence of bringing them together is to put smiles on their faces in commemoration of the Easter celebration. It is pertinent to note that the planned event is for both merry making and to charge them to take good care of their health as we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

“To this end, we have engaged some health experts to talk to them on the need to pay more attention to their health because heath is wealth. Experts will be talking to them on the danger of cancer and other tropical health challenges. We will focus more

on the Internally Displaced Persons because they are more vulnerable than other disadvantaged group”, she said.
She, however, called on good spirited Nigerians and other non-governmental organisations to come to the aid of the lessprivileged in society, adding that government alone cannot cater for their needs in view of the dwindling economy.

She revealed that the food items meant for distribution includes: bags of rice, beans, sugar, and cartoons of indomie, adding that beverages and clothing will also be distributed to over 300 widows and 20 IDPs.

The statement further revealed that the event will be powered by Helpline Foundation for the Needy, Dufil’s Prima Foods Nig. Ltd., Nig. Red Cross Society FCT, Rotary Club Maitama, and Society for Family Health, among others.
