The 2024 edition of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Inter-Area Councils cadet Handball championships, which began this Monday, came to a rousing conclusion on Thursday, with Kwali and Abuja Municipal Area Councils dominating the medals table.
The Under-12 and Under-15 Boys and Girls championships, which ought to feature the six area councils of the FCT was reduced to a four-team tournament, after Bwari and Kuje Area Councils failed to show up without a reason.
The star fixtures of the witnessed by the President of NAPHER-SD, Professor Florence Bola Adeyanju was the Under-12 Girls final, which Abuja Municipal won by trouncing Kwali Area Council 8-1; that was moments after Kwali edged their Abuja Municipal counterparts 12-10 to take the Gold medal, in the Under-12 Boys category.
The Under-15 Boys Gold also went to Kwali Area Council, while Abuja Municipal took the Silver.
Rolls were again reversed, as Abuja Municipal won the Under-15 Gold medal for Girls, at the expense of Kwali Area Council, winners of the Silver medal.
The highlights of the finals was the speech by Dr. Gideon Chidiebere Osi, the CEO of Gosima Group, who urged the kids to pursue their dreams, be it in sports, academics or other endeavors with a view to becoming responsible adults.
Dr. Osi then announced a full sponsorship of the next two editions of the championships, through which he said the FCT can discover a lot of world beaters; while keeping the youngsters away from social vices.
Another figure of note that graced the occasion was the former President of the NFF, who was also a one time Director of the FCT Sports Council, Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi.
