DPR seals 31 illegal gas stations in A/Ibom

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) Eket Field Office, said it has sealed 31 illegal gas stations between Jan. 9th to 16th in the state.

The Operations Controller of DPR in Akwa Ibom, Mr Tamunoiminabo Kingsley-Sundaye stated this in an interview with journalists in Eket on Monday.

Kingsley-Sundaye stated that out of the 31 illegal gas stations, five were operating without valid licenses in the state.

“A total of 31 illegal gas stations were sealed, out of the 31, five out of them have not renewed their expired licenses.

“Whereas the remaining 26 are illegal in the sense of the siting of the stations and operations, ” he said.

He said the illegal gas stations were sealed in Eket and Uyo respectively.

Kingsley-Sundaye observed that most of the illegal gas stations were carrying out dangerous operations and the entire processes were wrong in the state.

“They are doing refilling of cylinder, they just get horse and start transferring gas from smaller cylinder to another without considering lay down safety rules and regulations,” he frowned.

He said the department would give their names and locations of the illegal gas stations to security operatives to put eagle eyes on them.

The Operations Controller noted that any illegal gas stations that violates the seal order would be prosecuted by the law enforcement agency in the state.
