The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has sealed 19 filling stations in Niger state for selling above government regulated pump price of N165 per litre.
The DPR shut the filling stations Wednesday during surveillance operation led by the Operations Controller, Field Office Minna, Engineer Abdullahi Isah Jankara.
Speaking to journalists during the operation, Jankara said all measures would be taken to ensure that marketers sell their product at regulated price.
He warned that those who engage in sharp practices will face the wrath of the law, adding that, “we discovered that some marketers were selling between N175 and N185 per litre instead of the approved price of N165 per litre and those stations caught in the act were sealed and are to pay fines”.
He explained that 16 filling stations were sealed in Kontagora while 2 were sealed in Tegina and 3 in Minna.
He said that the enforcement will continued until marketers comply fully with government regulations.
He urged marketers in the state who want to remain in business to carryout their businesses according to regulations or face the penalties stipulated by the federal government.
He attributed the success of the operations to strategic measures put in place by the management of the department to ensure compliance.
