The police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has arraigned 33-year-old, Kallamu Yahaya, before a Wuse Zone 11 Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing an iPhone valued at N105,000 and escaping from police custody after arrest.
Yahaya, a resident of Mpape, a suburb of Abuja, is standing trial on a two-count charge of theft and escape from lawful custody.
Prosecutor Gambo Musa told the court that one Ibrahim Bashir of Banex Plaza, Wuse 2, Abuja, reported the matter at the Wuse Police Station on November 23, 2016.
Musa said that the defendant stole the complainant’s iPhone valued at N105,000, which was later recovered from the defendant by the police, noting that while the defendant was at the police station, he escaped with handcuffs.

He said the escaped suspect was later re-arrested by the police and taken back to the police station.
Musa said that the defendant damaged the handcuffs, an offence which contravened Section 288 and 172 of the Penal Code.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mohammed Tahir, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000, with a reliable surety that must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case till January 18, 2017, for hearing.
