Delta: Okowa’s CPS charges journalists to stand for professional dignity

Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor of Delta State, Mr. Olise Ifeajika, has charged  journalists to ensure dignity as professionals.

Mr Ifeajika gave the charge when he visited members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Asaba Correspondent Chapel with his team.

The Chief Press Secretary said there was need for journalists to maintain decorum and to conduct themselves in acceptable manner in the course of performing duty to earn some level of respects.

He said the union should wipe off all undesirable elements and quacks to ensure that the real professionals get the full benefits it deserved.

Mr. Ifeajika, former Chairman of the Asaba Correspondent Chapel, who recounted the old days experiences and the powers of  journalists, assured that his office would do its best to reward hardworking  journalists.

According to him, ” I’m here to see how much we can get back that respect; we had a screening committee in our time; journalists must be properly screened before being admitted into the correspondents chapel. How much dignity are we attaching to those who do this jobs today as journalists?

“We had our parameters and standards then and we did not compromise, so, you must get back to that glorious days,’ Ifeajika said.

He lauded his predecessor, Mr Charles Aniagwu, now Commissioner for Information for adopting a model that worked for him, but said he (Ifeajika) would come up with a model he believed would work for him.

“Let us clean our house, know our number and I think if we can get it right, it will help all of us,” he said.

Earlier, Chairman, NUJ Asaba Correspondent Mr Charles Osuyi congratulated the team on their appointments and expressed happiness that they are members of the chapel.

The Chairman called on the team to see that journalists, particularly, members of the  Chapel, have better and more cordial relationship with the governor.

The CPS was accompanied by Mr Victor Efeziomo, Mr. Amaechi Udemba and Mr. Nelson Egwuare (SAs Media) to the governor and Public Relations Director, government house, Mr, Herold Orji
