Delta state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Monday Udoh Tom, Monday confirmed the killing of the commission’s staff by unknown gunmen.

The official of INEC was attacked and killed in Ukwuani local government area of the state.

Delta INEC boss who stated this shortly after the announcement of the result of Ukwuani local government area said some corps members sustained various degrees of injuries in the process.

He said: “There were incidents of attack in Ukwani local government area where one of us died on their way coming after the election.

“The gunmen opened fire on the bus conveying them, but unfortunately one was killed while some corps members sustained injuries.”

He said those injured are currently receiving treatment in the locality but “we are planning on how to move them to hospital in Asaba”.

Meanwhile, a party leader in Delta state, Comrade Benjamin Ashiedu, has advised Nigerians to shun post election violence and embrace the spirit of patriotism to build a united nation.

Asiedu gave the advice in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the State, following the outburst of some Electorates over results trickling in from last Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections so far released by INEC.

He advised desperate politicians and INEC officials not to circumvent the will of God, adding that the results of the election must reflect the expectations of the masses.

Comrade Ashiedu commended Nigerians and voters in Okpanam in particular for their active participation in the just concluded presidential and National Assembly elections.

He added that Nigeria was long overdue for a change in government saying that prices of goods and commodities had skyrocketed just as he noted that so many things had gone wrong in the country since emergence of All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015.
