Death of UN staff in Isreali-Palestine war: IAWAPA’s Johnny Metchie urges Ambassadors to observe an hour silent moment

The International Association Of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) has decried the death of over a hundred United Nations staff in the ongoing Israeli Palestine war describing the loss as ‘calamitous’.

Amb. Johnny Metchie the IAWPA International Director of African Affairs made this known in a statement he signed. The message which was part of his appraisal of the ongoing conflict in the region called on all Eminent Peace Ambassadors world wide to observe a one hour special moment aimed at recognizing the efforts of the departed souls of the UN Staff who lost their lives in the ongoing conflict.

Amb. Metchie said it is regrettable that staff of the global body which has helped in maintaining and promoting peace will be subjected to activities that will lead to their deaths.

The statement said world leaders owe it as an inherent duty to ensure that peace is restored in the region.

While condemning events that led to the eruption of violence in the region, the statement from the African Directorate of IAWPA said all hope should not be lost because the situation can be redeemed. “the world should not fold it’s hands while innocent lives especially the lives of workers with the United Nations is lost every day. We must all rise up and observe this special moment aimed at honouring the over a hundred UN Staff who have lost their lives. This is the least we can do and it is my earnest expectations that this directive will be adhered to” the statement said.

Recall that tensions became high in the region when members of Hamas on Saturday October 7th initiated a terror attack on Israel which Israel has since responded to leading to thousands of death and destruction of properties worth millions of dollars.

The International Association Of World Peace Advocates IAWPA through its Director of African Affairs has since called for a seize fire which will enable all the parties to sort out the issues at stake in a peaceful manner.

A report by CNN said more United Nations aid workers have been killed in Gaza than in any other single conflict in the organization’s 78-year history, the UN also said Monday, a stark reminder that humanitarian staff from global agencies have not been spared from Israel’s relentless bombardment of the besieged strip.

It said a total of 102 aid workers with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) were killed and 27 others wounded in Gaza since Israel’s war with Hamas began more than a month ago, the agency said.
