Cyber attacks: Man ‘O’ War sensitises Unilorin students on counter measures

Following growing cases of cyber attacks on individual and corporate bodies by cyber criminals, the Man ‘O’ war Command of the University of Ilorin has organised a security talk to sensitise students on counter security.
The university and some of its academic staff, including some professors, had been victims of cyber criminals who had at different times hacked into the website of the institution and private e-mail of some staff.

Speaking at the event which was organised to sensitise new students, an Information technology (IT) expert and CEO of Compware IT Solutions, Adebayo Hassan, warned that the activities of cyber criminal have no boundary with Nigeria becoming one the countries with highest rate of crime.
He said security agencies in Nigeria must catch up with the rapidly evolving information technology by acquiring the right skills to confront the situation noting that cyber security should not be handled with levity.
The IT expert charged the students and public to be weary of clone websites, e-mail messages, SMS, among others, adding that the cyber criminals were used to cloning of a legitimate website or business with almost 99% resemblance.

“This security talk is to identify cybercrime, Identity theft, cyber security with counter measures. Many students have fell in to the trap of cyber criminals making a transaction online weather for school fees or other transaction too.
“Many businesses morgue have also fall in the trap in the process of making payments online,” he said.
