Court remands man, 27, in Osun over alleged rape

A 27-year-old man, Gafaru Rasaki, has been remanded in Ilesha prison custody for allegedly raping one Florence Adeyanju.
Osun state Police Command yesterday, arraigned the accused before Osogbo Magistrate’s Court, presided over by Mrs Falilat Sodamade, on two count charge of rape and assault.
The prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun, informed the court that the accused person committed the alleged offence on July 11 at 2pm, at Ido-Osun, Osogbo.
Olusegun alleged that the accused had unlawful carnal knowledge of one Florence Adeyanju, and thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under section 358 and section 360 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol 11, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
Magistrate Sodamade, however, ordered that the accused be remanded in Ilesha prison custody.
She also ruled that the case file be duplicated and sent to the office of Directorate for Public Prosecution for legal advice.
The magistrate directed counsel to the accused person, Mrs Bose Dada, to file formal application for the bail of her client at the higher court. She adjourned to September 5, 2018, for mention.
