Court remands 8 for ‘attacking’ police vehicle in Osun

A Magistrate’s Court, sitting in Osogbo, the capital of Osun state, has remanded 8 people in Ilesa correctional centre for allegedly attacking and vandalizing police vehicle. 


The accused are: Oladimeji Abdulah(25), Oyetunji Joel(50), Ramoni Saheed(28), Samuel Augustine(29), Abioye Sunday(35), Muritala Dare(67) and Abosede Adediran(23).


The police prosecutor, S.O Oladele, told the court that the accused persons attacked the police while conveying a suspected kidnapper to the station. 


The accused were alleged to have stolen Techno Spark3, ItelS12, a wrist watch, a chain, a cash sum of N7,000 and three exhibit riffles recovered from the suspected kidnapper arrested by the police.


The accused persons were alleged to have committed the purported crime on October 21, 2019 at Oyan town in Odo-Otin local government area of Osun state. 


The prosecution further alleged that the accused vandalized a Suzuki mini bus that conveyed the police. He said the bus worth N1.5m.


According to the prosecutor, the accused injured three policemen and also pour petrol on them in attempt to burn them. 


He said three policemen, Sergeant Ogunleye Gbenga, Sergeant Olukotun Bunmi and Corporal Omopariola, are victims of the attack. 


The plea of the accused was not taken, probably because of the magnitude of the alleged offences. 


Magistrate Segun Ayilara, thereby ordered that the accused persons be remanded in Ilesa correctional center and adjourned the case to December 18, 2019 for mention.
