Court adjourns former Maru emir’s case to Dec. 16

The Zamfara state High Court has Tuesday again adjourned the case filed by the former Emir of Maru, Alhaji Abubakar Cika Ibrahim, to December 16, next week.

Presiding judge of the court, Justice Bello Shinkafi, hinted that the motive behind the adjournment of the case was as a result of numerous pending cases before the court.

Addressing journalists at the court’s premises, the Counsel to the Emir, Barrister Sam Emeka Anosuke stated that the suit was supposed to be ruled today, but shifted to December 16.

“The court is always loaded with several pending cases, that is why our case will take a long time to finish and I am hoping that my client would get justice and redress at the end of the case,” Emeka said.

The former Emir of Maru, Alhaji Abubakar Cika Ibrahim, was alleged to have been aiding and abetting banditry in his domain and was dismissed from the throne in 2019. He was detained in Government House for eleven months.

The sacked monarch sued the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and five others, demanding for N6.5 billon as damages for alleged character assassination and infringement of his fundamental human rights.
