Contaminated fuel: Arewa youth to stage protest over non-payment of compensation

Arewa Youth Alliance for Progress and Development (AYAPD) has invited vehicle owners affected by the methanol contaminated fuel imported into Nigeria some months ago to converge at Duke Oil office Abuja on Friday for a protest march.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) had, some months ago, imported fuel into the country, which were later found to have been contaminated with methanol after it has knocked the engine of several vehicles and damaged other vehicle engines.

NNPC had discontinued it’s importation and made attempts to recall the fuel but failed to compensate those who suffered losses from damaged vehicle engine.

According to a statement signed by the Secretary, Arewa Youths Alliance for Progress and Development (AYAPD), Comrade James Ishaku, they made efforts to address the situation, following the raging fuel scarcity across the country, the Arewa Youths Alliance for Progress and Development (AYAPD) wrote letters to both the group Managing Director of the NNPCL, Kolo Mele Kyari and Managing Director of Duke Oil, NNPCL Official Trading Company to address the challenge amicably but to no avail.

“We have reviewed the situation in the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, the situation has largely remain the same. The affected public servants, who are saddled with the responsibility of ensuring energy security have not deem it necessary to as a matter of courtesy reply our letter or make effort to ease the burden from Nigerians.

“To this end, we wish to call on Nigerians whose vehicles were damaged as a result of the imported  methanol contaminated fuel, that are yet to be compensated to join our team on Friday, 18th November 2022 at the Head office of Duke Oil, located at No 25 Mississippi Street Maitama, Abuja.

“We shall address the press and unveil our next line of civil actions to press for the compensation for Nigerians whose means of transportation and feeding were damaged by the bad fuel; and to ensure adequate supply of PMS to suppress inflation and guarantee security of lives of Nigerians amidst threat of terror attack,” Ishaku said.
