Consider national security in your reportage, GOC tells media

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Bamidele Alabi has tasked journalists to always consider national security implication in their reportage.

General Alabi gave the task on Wednesday while hosting the Oyo state executives and leaders of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) at the headquarters 2 Division Conference Hall, Ibadan.

The GOC pointed out that in doing this, there is the need for journalists to at all times checked their facts and as well bear in mind the security implications, saying, this will do a lot of good for both sides.

Major General Alabi emphasised that Nigerian Army sees journalists as partners in progress as the journalists have the responsibility to inform the country while the Nigerian Army has the responsibility to protect the country.

Stressing that the Nigerian Army cherished the relationship it enjoys with the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), the GOC urged  members of the association in Oyo to continue to support the Nigerian Army in her duties of internal security and protecting the territorial integrity of the country.

Speaking, Oyo state chairperson of NAWOJ, Comrade Jadesola Ajibola,

called for what she referred to as ‘solution journalism’ as key to resolving the gray areas between the Nigerian Army and the Journalists in the country.

While appreciating the GOC and his Staff Officers for the hospitality and the continued support NAWOJ has been enjoying from the Nigerian Army, the Oyo state NAWOJ Chairperson thanked the GOC and his Staff Officers for giving them the opportunity to visit.
