Confab: Police assure of security

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of zone 7, AIG Suleman Abba has assured the delegates and officials to the National Conference which commenced yesterday in Abuja, adequate measures were in place for their safety.
Abba who gave the assurance while speaking to journalists in Abuja, said he had visited the venue to monitor the security arrangements, said that security personnel would ensure a hitch-free conference.

According to him, “Long before now, we’ve been making arrangements to ensure that the delegates, the officials, the premises get the maximum security arrangement for their safety.
“There’s no way nearly 500 important personalities in Nigeria will be gathering to deliberate on important issues affecting almost every aspect of the society without the security organisations preparing.

“We’ll ensure that the premises, the delegates and the officials are well secure so that they have an atmosphere conducive for them to deliberate on whatever issues they want.”
He added that arrangements were made to accommodate and properly secure vehicles that would be coming into the venue of the conference, just as he appealed to the delegates to cooperate with security personnel for effective operation all through the duration of their deliberations.

“The delegates should feel comfortable enough to do what they are here for. The security agencies cannot do it alone. There are many things we cannot see or hear, except through the public.
“Whatever they feel we should know, they should let us know on time. The key word here is ‘reporting on time’. Whatever you see or you suspect, get it reported on time so that we will be able to respond quickly even if we don’t see or are unaware of it.”
Abba, who did not disclose the number of police personnel deployed, said the number would be `manageable’.
