Communal clashes: Bassa elites task Kogi, Nasarawa govts on safety

Wants actualisation of Bassa Turunku chiefdom

A coalition of Bassa Elites, have asked the governments of Kogi and Nasarawa states to urgently do everything possible to put an end to the frequent communal clashes in order to save the lives of Bassa people in the two states.

They specifically asked the governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello, to deploy security to Koto-Karfe while the Ohimege of Koto-Karfe to fish out those described as “unscrupulous elements that are determined to ruin his peace effort and hand them over to security agencies for culpable penalty.”

A statement signed Monday in Abuja, by the Publicity Secretary of the group, Ndazhaga Nyizo, also demanded that the government of Nasarawa state should actualize Bassa Turunku chiefdom which he said was created by 1998 edict following the recommendation of Five (5) Government panels of inquiry.

According to him, for peace to reign, the killers of Mejida Peter should be apprehended in order to serve as a deterrence to intending murderers among the Egbira in Bassa LGA.

The group believe that governor Al-makura should also have an audience with Bassa leaders in Nasarawa state in order to note their own concerns too.

“While the security agencies deployed to Bassa LGA in kogi state have remained impartial and highly professional in their conduct we urge the Nasarawa state governor to ensure that security personnel deployed for peace keeping in Nasarawa state remain neutral and unbiased.

“It is pertinent to note that in Umaisha two brothers who are all children of elder Moses Gunu on 22nd April, 2018 were abducted in the presence of security personnel who did Nothing to rescue the the helpless innocent boys.

“It is no secret that the Egbura people have vowed to exterminate the Bassa people. Their quest to eliminate the Bassa people is openly expressed on various social media platforms. We urge the government at all levels and in the affected States to put necessary measures on ground to protect our innocent and peace loving people.

“It is this threat to the continuous existence of the Bassa in Nigeria that this coalition seeks the government through the security agencies to intervene and save the Bassa Nation from imminent danger.”
