Cholera:  Our medical team on red alert- Oyo govt

The Oyo state government has put surveillance, notification officers on alert over purported report of outbreak of cholera in some parts of the state.

The permanent secretary, Oyo state Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusoji Adeyanju, stated this in a statement made available to newsmen weekend.

Dr Adeyanju said though the state has no record of the disease for now, a medical team had been put on alert to prevent unforeseen circumstances in and across the state.

“Surveillance and notification officers in the state and local governments have been put on alert to institute preventive measures and sensitisation of residents in markets and other places with a view to responding to any outbreak of such disease in the state,” he said.

He added, “This disease is suspected to be highly contagious. It is an infection that may be transmitted from person- to- person through various channels, most especially where the source of drinking water and foods are polluted or contaminated.”

The permanent secretary posited that, ” Our people at  the ministry are currently on field, sensitising the  the masses on how to prevent cholera.”

Dr. Adeyanju implored the people of the state to improve on their personal hygiene and abide by the disease preventive measures,
