Child trafficking: Zamfara police arrest 4 suspects

Zamfara state police command has said that as part of its efforts to make the state crime-free and get rid of human trafficking, it had arrested four human traffickers who specialised in child trafficking.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adaji Adejo Gabriel, disclosed this while briefing newsmen in his office yesterday.
He said the Command had received information at Filin Jirgi in Tudun Wada area Gusau that a pregnant woman, Hadiza Lawal, of Shinkafi local government was rented a house at Filin Jirgi area by some suspected traffickers with agreement to deliver her baby and hand over to them in exchange for the sum N200, 000.
He said the woman after she delivering a baby boy had refused to hand him over to them as arranged and this caused a stir which attracted the attention of the anti-trafficking unit of the Command.
According to him, the Command arrested the mother of the baby and the four suspects.
The suspects, he added, were one Rita Eke, Josephine Aruja, Maryam Dauda and Chizoba Eke, both of Tudun Wada area, while “one suspect is at large but is being trailed by the Command.”
He equally noted that, the suspects confessed to the crime and further stated their intention of taking the baby to Lagos, adding that, the case is under scrutiny.
