Building collapse won’t occur if… – Yobe NSE 

 

The Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Damaturu branch, Monday   said if contractors or persons constructing buildings abide by their suggestions, issues of building collapse in the state would not arise.

The association stated while briefing journalist in Damaturu as part of their series of activities making the commencement of 2023 engineering week.

The chairman, Engineering Regulation and Monitoring Committee in Yobe state, Zaji Bunu, said the issue that engineers have within the engineering and other sectors is corruption. He called on engineers in the state to abide by the code of ethics and code of conduct.

“I’m sure you know and all of us know in all our passage of life that corruption is always there and unless and until all of us agree either as clients, contractors, supervisors or consultants to abide on our ethics and code of conduct, there is no way we can single handley take care of all these issues of either building collapse or having very low quality constructions in the state,” said Zaji Bunu.

Briefing journalists, the chairman, Nigeria Society of Engineers, Damaturu branch, Mai Modu, said engineering week is an annual event where series of activities are undertaken to promote the engineering profession and improve awareness of the general populace towards the profession.

Engineer Mai Modu  added that as part of this year’s 2023 engineering activities in the state, Damaturu branch would carry out some activities such as career talk at Government Girls Collage, Damaturu, Philanthropic visit to Yatim Care Foundation School and State Specialist Hospital, Damaturu.
