Buhari seeks Senate approval of Owasanoye as ICPC chair

President Muhammadu Buhari has sought the confirmation of Professor Bolaji Owasanoye from Osun state in the South west as chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) and eight others as members.
The president’s request was contained in a letter addressed to theSenate President, Dr.
Bukola Saraki and read on the floor of the upper legislative chamber yesterday in Abuja.
The letter, dated October 27, 2017 was titled: “Confirmation of the appointment of the chairman and members of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC)”.
Those nominated as members were: Dr.
Grace N.
Chinda from Delta state, Okolo Titus M.
(Enugu), Barrister Obiora Igwedebia (Anambra), Mrs.
Olubukola Balogun (Lagos) and Justice Adamu Bello (Katsina).
Others are, Hannatu Mohamed from Jigawa state, Abdullahi Maikano Saidu from Niger and Yahaya Umar Dauda from Nasarawa state, respectively.
The letter reads: “In compliance with the provision of Section 38(6) of the Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (Establishment) Act, 2000, I have the pleasure to present the under listed names for confirmation as chairman and members of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) by the senate.” President Buhari, in the letter, pleaded for the senate’s “usual expeditious consideration” in approving the nominees.
