Broady beats Fratangelo, 2nd round

Liam Broady came into the Miami Open on a five match losing streak and will leave it with at least his first victory at a Masters level event after one of the most satisfying wins of his career.
Having come through the qualifying event the British No 4 defeated American Bjorn Fratangelo 7-6, 6-3 to make the second round proper and bank, minimally, a cheque for £18,000.
The win should take the 24 year-old from Stockport to A career high ranking on the cusp of the world’s top 150, having come close to that when he reached the second round at Wimbledon in 2015.
Broady took an edgy tiebreak 7-5 when he ran in to meet an attempted dropshot with a down the line winner, and broke three times in the second set to seal the win as day turned into evening.
He now meets the improving Serbian Filip Krajinovic, the 22nd seed.
‘I looked up to him (Fratangelo) quite a bit in juniors, he excelled there,’ said the lefthander from Fred Perry’s hometown.
