Breaking: Terrorists invade Zamfara LG headquarters, set Police station on fire, kill DCO

A certain terrorist group late Sunday night into early Monday morning invaded Zurmi town, the headquarters of Zurmi Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara state.

Resident of the area identified as Malam Lawali Zurmi in a telephone interview with Blueprint has said.

According to him, the terrorists attacked the LGA divisional police station and set it on fire.

“As I am talking to you now, our divisional police station has been set on fire and majority of the people have flee for their safety.

“And I can tell you that we can see them trooping in their hundreds into the town riding motorcycles from where we are hiding in the bush,” he said.

However, reports indicated that the attack was not unconnected with how the vigilante members in the area mobilised themselves and attacked some of the terrorists in their location recently and killed four of their men and captured one of the bandit.

It was also gathered that when the vigilante members captured the bandit, they later killed him, a situation which led their people to launch a reprisal attack on the community in the area.

Blueprint correspondent gathered that during the attack, the bandits killed Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) and several police officers sustained serious injury and later set the Divisional Police station ablaze.

Eyewitness has now revealed that the terrorists on sighting the military have fled to the bush and all efforts to reach the Zamfara state police command public relations officer Asp Yazid Abubakar failed as all his lines were not reachable.
