Nigeria’s ex-Head of Service is dead

An elder statesman and former Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Malam Adamu Fika is dead.

He was aged 90.

His death was announced this night by the Secretary Fika Emirate Council Potiskum, Ali Gimba Fika in a statement.

The elder statesman, who had been battling with a health related challenge for some time, died mid-flight while returning from a London hospital to Kaduna late Tuesday.

Funeral prayers would be held at Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna this Wednesday, October 25, 2023, by 4:00pm.

Late Malam Adamu Fika, who was born in Fika, present-day Yobe State, served as the Pro-chancellor and chairman of the Governing Council of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria.

He was also the chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF).

The Wazirin Fika began his educational journey at Kaduna Government College and the Nigerian College of Arts, Science, and Technology, now known as Ahmadu Bello University.

He held several significant positions, including Permanent Secretary of various federal ministries, such as Internal Affairs, Commerce, and Communications.

He also served as the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and made invaluable contributions to the development of Nigeria.

He received numerous honours and awards for his exceptional service, including the Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) by the Federal Government in 1992.
