Breaking: Former Anambra assembly speaker is dead

A former Speaker, Anambra state House of Assembly, Mr Anayo Nnebe, is dead.

Nnebe, who died at undisclosed hospital on Wednesday January 24, 2024, was a Special Adviser on legislative and Assembly matter to incumbent governor Chukwuma Soludo before his death.

He was State Assembly Speaker while representing Awka South 1 Constituency from 2007 to 2011, before being elected to represent Awka North and Awka South Federal Constituency between 2015 and 2019.

Governor Soludo has confirmed his death in a statement by his Press Secretary, Mr Christian Aburime.

Soludo, who explained that he died after a brief illness, described Nnebe as a distinguished son of Anambra state, a patriotic Nigerian, a visionary leader, brilliant legislator, and passionate advocate for the welfare and development.

“His death is also a huge blow to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and to the entire people of Anambra State. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. May God grant them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss and grant his soul eternal rest,” he added.

Nnebe was once a political adviser to the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.
