The Kwara state police command Tuesday night confirmed that 103 persons were killed during Monday’s boat mishap along River Niger in Patigi, Patigi local government area of Kwara state.
The command according to its Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Okasanmi Ajayi, said it will make the names of the deceased public as soon as they were available.
Blueprint reports that the incident occurred Monday when the victims were returning from a marriage ceremony at the neighbouring Egboti village in Niger state.
It was also gathered that about 50 bodies have been recovered from the river where the boat capsized.
Sources also said that the boat was carrying over 300 passengers on the return trip from the venue of the marriage before it capsized at Egbu village.
