Boniface injury worries Peseiro few days to AFCON 2023 kick-off 

Super Eagles gaffer Jose Peseiro is worried over inform striker Victor Boniface injury he sustained during the team training session in Dubai.

Already, Kelechi Ihenacho is battling to be fit for the tournament.

Our correspondent gathered that Boniface who plies his trade with Bayer Leverkusen is having muscular injury.

The 23-year-old has been in terrific form for Die Werkself , scoring 10 goals in 16 league appearances with 6 assists.

Peseiro left him out of Sunday’s training match against local Dubai club Al Gharib which they won by 12-0 and he did  not feature in a final AFCON warm-up against Guinea yesterday which the team lost by two goals to nil.

The Portuguese gaffer is believes want to pair Osimhen and Boniface to spearhead the team attack during the AFCON tournament and the injury may disorganize his game plan. 

Boniface has since undergone a scan to determine the severity of the injury.

In the striker’s absence, coach Jose Peseiro started Real Sociedad striker Sadiq Umar.

Former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi believes Boniface is ‘special talent’ and will go far in the game and become a complete centre-forward.

“He (Boniface) will become a complete striker in the next couple of years. He has the physique, he is quick, good on the ball, technically very good and it’s difficult to see strikers that are that big and strong and powerful and then good on the ball as well,”Mikel told Obionepodcast.
