Blasphemy: Police probe meat seller’s killing in Sokoto

Sokoto state Police Command has officially verified the killing of Usman Buda, a butcher, on Sunday, following an alleged blasphemous statement against Prophet Muhammad.

Already, police have launched an investigation to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice.

Reportedly, the assailants managed to flee the scene while leaving the victim unconscious.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Sokoto state Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Rufa’i, on Monday.

He said, “At approximately 9:20 am, we received a distress call reporting that Usman Buda from Gwandu Local Government Area, a butcher at Sokoto Abattoir, had allegedly blasphemed the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Consequently, he was attacked by a mob.

“Upon receiving the information, the Commissioner of Police, Area Commander Metro and DPO kwanni, led a team of policemen and all other operational commanders to the scene.

“On arrival, the mob escaped the scene and left the victim unconscious where he was rescued and taken to Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital Sokoto for treatment and was later confirmed dead.

“Meanwhile, investigation is on to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book.”
