Bandits kill pregnant woman, 4 others, abduct 50 in Niger 

Five persons, including a six-month pregnant woman, have reportedly been killed and 50 others abducted by bandits in Rafi and Wushishi local government areas of Niger state.

The bandits were said to have attacked some communities, Tuesday, including Anawanka , Sabon Gari and Kudu in Rafi local government area of Niger state. 

It was also learnt that a detachment of the Nigerian Air Force fighters repelled the bandits in an exchange of fire.

An indigene of Anawanka  village, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said “Among those killed was a 6-month pregnant woman while those abducted are men, women and children.”

Some other villagers also expressed shock on why the attack was coming few days to the Governorship and House of Assembly elections. They noted that similar attack took place few days to the Presidential and National Assembly elections in Mariga local government area of the state.

Niger state Commissioner for Internal Security and Humanitarian Affairs, Mr Emmanuel Umar confirmed the incident, adding that the actual figure of casualties was yet to be ascertained. 

According to him, “the state government is not resting on its oars to rid Niger state of all forms of criminality.”
