Badminton: Federation, CSED train 102 game masters, students on basics

The Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) in partnership with Community Sport and Educational Development Initiative (CSED) have trained 80 students and 22 physical education teachers/gamemasters, drawn from 20 schools, on the basics of badminton.

The badminton ‘Train the Trainers’ programme tagged ‘Shuttle Time Nigeria’ Project, was organised to teach both the teachers and students what the game of badminton is all about. The two-day programme, which took place at the Gymnasium Hall of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Kaduna state, was handled by the Shuttle Time Nigeria Coordinator, Mr. Suleiman Tajudeen of University of Ilorin, and  Tutor, Enejo Abah from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

The Coordinator in an interview with Sports writers, expressed delight with the turnout of participants. He however urged them to put what they learnt at the training to use by continuing with the game of badminton after the training and teaching others about the game.

For the Tutor, the game of badminton is coming up fast in Nigeria, but there is need for the school teachers, who have been trained to make judicious use of the equipment given to them.

One of the participants, Malama Aisha Iliyasu, stated that the training programme was interesting, just as she called on the Badminton Federation of Nigeria to repeat the training programme in the nearest future to open the game to more people.

All the 20 invited schools were presented with badminton nets, rackets and tubes of shuttles.
