Average fare price for June up by 1.53%

Average fare paid by commuters for bus journey within the city increased by 1.53 per cent month-on-month and 32.75 per cent year-on-year to N168.90 in June 2018 from N166.85 in May 2018, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has said.

The Transport fare watch report for June 2018 covers the following categories namely bus journey within the city per drop constant route ; bus journey intercity, state route, charge per person; air fare charge for specified routes single journey; journey by motorcycle (Okada) per drop; and water way passenger transport.

According to the Transport Fare Watch for June 2018, the statistics bureau stated that Abuja FCT (N336.20), Cross River (N282.20) and Abia (N235.50) had the highest bus journey fare within city while Bauchi (N88.00), Anambra (N95.00) and Rivers (N100.00) were among States with lowest bus journey fare within city.

Average fare paid by commuters for bus journey intercity increased by 0.75 per cent month-on-month and 15.48 per cent year-on-year to N1,729.01 in June 2018 from N1,716.31 in May 2018.

States with highest bus journey fare intercity were Abuja FCT (N4,150.00), Adamawa (N3,200.00) and Borno (N2,750.00) while States with lowest bus journey fare within city were Bauchi (N1,065.00), Enugu (N1,090.00) and Zamfara (N1,150.00).

Average fare paid by air passengers for specified routes single journey increased by 0.53 per cent month-on-month and decreased by 0.34 per cent year-on-year to N31,828.38 in June 2018 from N31,659.82 in May 2018. States with highest air fare were Lagos (N41,300.00), Edo (N39,900.00) and Abuja FCT (N39,500.00) while States with lowest air fare were Katsina (N24,500.00), Osun (N24,900.00), and Nassarawa (N25,700.00).
