A Professor of Constitutional Law and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, Auwal Yadudu, has expressed satisfaction with the verdict of the Supreme Court on the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) which affirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu won the 2023 presidential election.
The Supreme Court had, Thursday, October 26, affirmed the verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT).
The constitutional lawyer and former Dean of the Faculty of Law at the Bayero University Kano said the apex court gave a very sound judgement, as Justices gave good reasons why their judgement cannot be faulted.
The Kano state born legal luminary described the arguments and defence of the Presidential candidates of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party Peter Obi as flimsy, saying they both played to the gallery.
Speaking on the sideline of the wedding Fatiha of Muhammad Rabiu Yadudu, son of the immediate past Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Capt. Hamisu Rabiu Yadudu in Lagos, the vice chancellor said, “I am happy that the Supreme Court not only finds the judgement of the PEPT to be faultless but I think they mainly refer to it as unassailable. Actually I described it rather mildly that it will be difficult to fault their judgement.
“What happened, all the issues that the two petitioners raised were really hot air issues. They played to the gallery, they argued their cases on the social media, over TV programmes but in terms of real challenge to the outcome of the election, the defence or the argument they put were really very flimsy, and I am not surprised that the Supreme Court find the verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal unassailable, that was their word. That is it.”
