Arewa youths accuse Jonathan, govs of politicising insurgency

Arewa Youths Forum (AYF) yesterday in a statement accused President Goodluck Jonathan, Northern governors and leaders of politicising the Boko Haram insurgency.
The statement issued by its national president, Gambo Ibrahim Gujungu, added that it would hold both parties responsible for the killings.

It said: “AYF met and thoroughly deliberate on the Boko Haram insurgency leading to killings of over 500 people and displacement of almost 100, 000 persons within Adamawa, Yobe and Borno and also neighboring countries namely Chad, Cameroon and Niger Republics. The politicisation of issues surrounding the insurgency in our study seems to be obvious hence we resolve as follows:

“President Goodluck Jonathan, Northern Governors, religious and Northern leaders are doing nothing tangible but outright politicisation of the conundrum. We, therefore, hold them responsible for the incessant and unabated killings in the North-east. Let it be
known that we are not unaware that leaders are more concerned about their 2015 elections than the security of Nigerians, most especially those in the North-east.”

Continuing, it said: “Recently, in Kaduna, Northern governors vowed to work hard towards ending the insurgency by prevailing on federal government to deploy all available military means and as well recommendations issued by previous committees, but as usual nothing has come out of the talk.”
AYF further said if the situation continued, it would be compelled to mobilise youths across the country to demand justice before it became too late, stressing that “Enough is Enough; let our leaders know that we cannot continue like this and running out of patience.”
