The pronouncement of governor Muazu Babandida Aliyu of Niger state that politics is about lying, has sent the signal that the people of the state cannot trust him, his government and his party to serve public interest.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state stated this yesterday in Minna, in reaction to the governor’s Monday chastisement of his former commissioners for not lying to win the PDP last primary election.
The APC statement tagged: “The truth is out”, stated that “the people of Niger state are tired of lies and window dressing, this is the time for change, the wind of change is blowing through Niger state, No amount of vote buying and manipulation can stop this wind sweeping the spirit of lying from Niger Government House in 2015”.
The statement also signed by the APC publicity secretary in the state, Mr. Jonathan Vatsa, stated that it had come to the party with relief that the governor has finally confirmed its position that the administration has been running a government of deceit.
“We in APC want to make it clear that the position of the Governor has clearly made public the true Manifestoes of the ruling PDP to the people of the state which is lying and deceit, an indication that all the years of the Governor has been a ruse and about lying”, he said.
The APC said that the Governor Aliyu’s administration since 2007 was nothing but full of promises and grandstanding which main agenda was to make people believe that they are been provided with the needed dividend of democracy while in the real sense they were been deceived.
“There are many unfulfilled promises but notable among them were the Zuma rock tallest building and the cable car, Minna airport city, Minna city tower, Garam industrial layout, Minna shopping mall, five star hotels, Minna Stadium and many others that he had made Nigerlites to believe is for their interest but ended only on billboards”, he said.
He said that the administration had embarked on gigantic and uncompleted projects that have no direct impact on the life of ordinary people of the state.
“He, absurdly, embarked on these projects without recourse to the immediate needs of the people which included adequate water supply, Health care delivery, sound education and other immediate needs that our people are denied of and killing them every days”, he said.
He said that the governor had, so far, collected N36 billion bond that were used to either construct road to his house or to his farm, it is more disturbing that the burden of some of the Bonds will be taking over by the next administration thereby weighing down the next administrations and generation unborn with debt burdens.
He explained that a very diligent inquiry into the projects, apart from being self-serving, also showed that the projects were awarded to firms ready to serve the interest of the members of his inner caucus in the face of inflated cost, adding that examples of such projects were the ten kilometers roads that have been on for over five years despite the fact that the costs of the projects were reviewed severally.
