Anambra: Cultists kill 8 on Easter day

The Easter celebration turned bloody in Awka, Anambra state capital, as suspected cultists reportedly gunned down about eight persons across the streets.

Sources told Blueprint that the incidents happened on Sunday between 12 noon and 2pm at Aroma junction, Umukwa, Amikwo and Obunagu sides of Awka respectively.

According to trending videos and sources, two persons were gunned down at the popular Aroma junction, while one person each were equally killed at Ukwu udala íshí Agu Amikwo, opposite Nwaanyị ọma joint by Dike street, Umuonaga Umuogbu village and Umukwa respectively.

The viral video further showed that a younger person on a motorcycle and a staff of Anambra State Judiciary, simply identified as Izuu Nwofor, were also killed at opposite Dike Park by Eke Awka market.

“One of the guys killed at Amikwo usually come and collect phones and other things from people. He came out for drinking not knowing that some persons were waiting to kill him. As he walked in, those people came after him and he rushed into a nearby compound and was shot their,” a source said.

It was learnt that the judicial staff killed was hit by stray bullets while going about his normal business, while a viral video showed bodies of two persons gunned down at Eke Awka environ, as one of them was struggling in pains in the pool of his blood beside his motorcycle as passersby scampered for safety.

But when contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Anambra State Police Command, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, denied knowledge of the killings.
