Alleged arrest of Okorocha: Igbo youth raise alarm over FG plans to silence leaders

Leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) Worldwide Thursday urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commssion (EFCC) against witch hunting the immediate past Governor of Imo state, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and other top Igbo leaders.

Reacting to the alleged arrest of Okorocha, his wife and three children by the EFCC on Thursday, the youth in a statement issued by their President General Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro in Abakaliki said they would be not obstructing constitutional duties of EFCC but urged the anti-graft agency to be fair in the trial of Okorocha.

“We are watching keenly the unfolding drama, the Political intrigues and witch-hunting of the former Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha and his family. We are not obstructing the constitutional duties of Economic and Financial Crime Commission but we call for Fair trial and release of the Okorocha family.

“We are worried the continuous ill treatment melted politically against Igbo, and political elite conspiracy against Igbo Presidency Project by those who are tactically wished to silence Igbo politically.

“These entire hullabaloo is about 2023 Igbo Presidency project, it’s confirmed that there’s clandestine plan to silence potential Igbo Presidential materials ahead of 2023 election.

“We are watching and monitoring the unfolding drama and we will to support the anti-Corruption stance on the Presidency, and call for arrest of other Sacred cows in the leadership of APC and inside the ruling party.

“Let the arrest of those corrupt politicians Continue, as they have moved against Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha and his family, let them extend it to all other former Governors and those in APC that had in one way abuse the Commonwealth of the people. If Okorocha’s arrest is political, let them release him but if there’s evidence against him, let the trial be fair and Just”, the youths said.
