Alaafin raises alarm over plot to divide Yoruba


The Alaafin of Oyo and Permanent Chairman of the Oyo state Council of Obas and Chiefs, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi has  advised the Yorubarace to be careful as some elements are bent on dividing the Yorubas.


Oba Adeyemi who said this in Ibadan Tuesday while speaking as the Chairman at the inauguration of the newly elected Council and members of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes held at Ibadan House, Oke Are, Ibadan disclosed that the time has come for the Yorubarace to live in peace, unity and oneness for the development of Yorubaland.


The royal father maintained that it is only through unity of purpose and oneness among the Yorubarace that the desired development of the Yorubaland can be possible.
“Some people want to divide the Yorubas but we should be very careful.We should continue to live in peace, in one love and in unity so that we can have the desired development for our region” he said.


The Alaafin added  “there is no love within us in Yorubaland, and we have to learn how to live in love and peace within ourselves and I can assure you that this will foster the development we are yearning for in our region.”


Speaking at the ceremony, the immediate past governor of Oyo state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi  while appreciating the CCII for its roles on the growth and development  of Ibadanland.lamented the slow pace of work at  the Ultra modern Olubadan palace which he said he was able to raise N240million fund raising during his tenure as the govrrnor but was surprised that the project has remained uncompleted till date.


“During my tenure as governor of this state, we raised the sum of N240 million to build an ultra modern palace for Olubadan but it is quite unfortunate that the palace is still yet to be completed.

“I suspected that some people that are in charge of that money and the project were not judicious in its usage. But I will continue to contribute my efforts to make sure that the project is completed.”


Welcoming guests to the programme, the President General of Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII)  Chief Yemi Soladoye urged Ibadan  indigenes to always be ready to contribute to the development of the city, especially on terms of ongoing projects to uplift the state.
