Adamawa APC crisis: Lawmakers back embattled exco

The leadership crisis rocking Adamawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a new dimension with 24 APC lawmakers in the state House of Assembly throwing their weight behind the embattled State Executive Committee of the party.
Led by the Speaker Hon. Kabiru Mijinyawa, the lawmakers stormed the state party secretariat in Yola, yesterday to declare their supports for the party exco against a faction of the party they claimed is loyal to Abuja politicians.
According to them, the Abuja politicians had written a petition to the party national headquarters calling for the removal of the state party chairman and his secretary and to conduct new election for the state exco ahead of 2019.
Hon. Mijinyawa explained the lawmakers’ readiness to cooperate and ensure that the exco members remain in their positions until the expiry of their tenure, and applauded their sacrifice for the victory of the party.
The Speaker said they would take the matter to Abuja where they intend to meet with the APC national leadership over the need to retain the present exco.
Responding, the party acting state chairman, Ibrahim Bilal, thank the lawmakers for the solidarity visit and their tireless supports and monthly financial assistance which have been assisting the party to carry out its activities.
He explained that they only way the party can pay them back is to give them automatic ticket for their supports to the party and the executive arm which enable the governor to execute so many development projects in the last two years.
Though he said the state governor has said he doesn’t want any imposition of candidates in 2019, assured them that all the APC lawmakers would be allowed retain their seats in the House.
Bilal said nobody would be prevented from contesting for any elective position of his choice under the party platform but was quick to note that the party also has the right to elect any candidate of their choices at the party primaries.
