A socio -cultural organization, under the aegis of Oganiru Nsukka Forum, ONF, has called Sen. Ayogu Eze to sheathe- his-sword and embrace the emergence of Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as the 2015 governorship consensus candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Enugu state.
The group commended Governor Sullivan Chime and PDP stakeholders in the state for Ugwuanyi’s adoption, describing it as “wonderful” while they urged Sen. Eze, to key into the project since it was a popular decision.
The group, which made this call in a statement signed by its president, Barrister Peter Ugwu, and secretary, Barr. Chidi Onah, and made available to newsmen in Enugu yesterday, said “Senator Eze should sheathe his sword in the interest of Nsukka people and Enugu state in general”.
“We want to use this medium to urge Senator Ayogu Eze, to embrace the popular decision of the PDP in the state, by supporting Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, because without sounding immodest, his emergence was divine.
“Apart from the fact that the PDP decision was taken in the spirit of justice, equity and fair play, the consensus candidate, (Ugwuanyi) remains a man of the peoples, whose acceptability and popularity cuts across all segments of the state.
“The emergence of Hon. Ugwuanyi, as the PDP sole candidate, is the best thing that has ever happened to the people of Nsukka, and Enugu in general hence, there is need for all and sundry to give him all the support he needs to succeed in the election,” the statement said.
The group also advised Nigerian politicians to always imbibe the spirit of putting collective interest above personal interest.
It said “after a detailed consideration of the electoral act and other relevant laws relating to the emergence of a governorship candidate from a political party, we have come to the conclusion that consensus is the most viable, cost effective and unifying option.”
Consensus arrangement, according to the organisation, would equally save the party unnecessary litigations, rancor and strife that always accompany governorship primaries.
