Following the strike embarked upon by producers of sachet water, popularly known as pure water as a result of high cost of production, a sachet now costs N50 in most areas in Enugu metropolis.
A bag of sachet water that hitherto costs between N180 and N200 now sells for N300, 00.00.
To meet up with the increase in price, some retailers now sell a sachet for between N30 and N50.
“We have to sell a sachet for N50 to meet up with high cost of things in the country. Since we buy a bag for N300 we have to sell N50 to make enough profit.
“At times because of epileptic power supply, we buy ice block to chill our water and we have bills to pay, so we had to increase the cost of the water we sell. I don’t blame the producers for increasing the price of pure water because everything is costly today,” a retailer said.
