See what Anthony Joshua said about Fury’s heavyweight victory

Anthony Joshua has jokingly played down Tyson Fury’s victory over Tom Schwarz in Las Vegas on Saturday, although he did praise the Gypsy King for ‘getting the job done’.

Fury suffered nothing of the trouble Joshua faced against Andy Ruiz Jr earlier this month, which saw the London fighter lose his WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles to the unfancied Mexican.

Schwarz was dealt with by Fury within two rounds at the MGM Grand, and Joshua, speaking in a live Instagram story, praised his heavyweight rival.

Joshua said: ‘Thoughts on Tyson Fury’s win? He done what he had to.

‘I could talk s*** but he done what he had to, well played to him.’

The 29-year-old has the chance to reclaim his world titles in a rematch later this year, but he couldn’t help land a small dig at Fury, jokingly suggesting that he hoped he too could fight lower-ranked opponents.

‘I wanna go back to fighting some easy opponents,’ he added, before being asked about Schwarz’s ranking.

’56th. I think, why am out here doing all this s*** myself? D’ya know what I mean?’

Fury is set for talks regarding a much-anticipated rematch of his own against Deontay Wilder this week.

The two titans of the heavyweight division played out a compelling yet controversial draw in December, although a repeat was not penciled in immediately.

But Fury’s promoter Frank Warren has said talks will get underway very soon and there is an appetite for an agreement in both camps.

‘There’s a desire on both sides to get it done,’ Warren said.

‘They’re huge fights; they’re the two best heavyweights out there, and there’s a desire because there’s unfinished business. Whatever way you want to look at it, even if Wilder thinks he won the fight, he was robbed.

‘You know it’s going to be a good fight, know that you get these two characters, a devastating puncher, probably the hardest punching heavyweight of the last 25 years, against the best heavyweight boxer I’ve seen in the same time.

‘(In New York the opponent) will be somebody who’s ranked in the top five and a step-up from Schwarz. Whoever it is will be selected with half-an-eye on Wilder.

‘We need to sit down and have a discussion with Tyson, which is what we’ll do in the next few days. He’s just told you he wants the fight; everybody wants the fight.

Fury meanwhile suffered no issues whatsoever against the low-ranked German boxer Schwarz
