8th assembly: Mashio emerges Yobe Speaker

Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio has been elected as the speaker Yobe State House of Assembly.

Mashio, the lawmaker representing Jajere constituency was elected speaker during the 8th inaugural seating to mark the beginning of the 8th assembly in the state on Monday.

The election was followed by a nomination by Hon. Adamu Dala Dogo, member representing Karasuwa constituency which was seconded by the member representing Geidam Constituency, Hon. Bukar Mustapha.

The nomination comes shortly after Governor Mai Mala Buni proclaimed the assembly for the commencement of legislative duties.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Speaker commended the members of the house for giving him an opportunity to serve as speaker and assured that he would give equal opportunities to all.

Mashio also assured that he would work hand in hand with the executive arm of government for more dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

Other elected members are Hon. Yau Usman Dachia deputy speaker, Hon. Nasiru Hassan Yusuf Leader, Hon.Hassan Mohammed Yusufari, deputy leader, Hon. Mohammed Auwal Isa Bello Chief-Whip and Hon. Ahmed Musa Danbol as Deputy Chief-whip respectively.

The 8th Yobe House of Assembly is made of two political parties namely the All progressives Congress (APC) with 22 members and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with two members respectively.
