59th Independence Anniversary: College to host radio programme in Sardauna’s honour


Destiny College, a private secondary school in Kaduna will hold a radio programme on October 1 to commemorate the independence anniversary in honour of late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello.


President of Destiny College Press Club, Khadija Shehu Jamoh, who disclosed this on Thursday in Kaduna said the club decided to dedicate the October 1 radio programme to educate young listeners on the late icon and to resuscitate the spirit of unity in the region.

She said, “the aim of the programme is to promote the accomplishments of the late Premier, Sir Ahmadu Bello (1954 to 1966), a principled leader, who always put people first, whose leadership policy and style, paved the way forward for the region.
“There will be five segments; phone-in programme on ‘how well do you know Sardauna of Sokoto’; there is a talk show on ‘Historic speeches of Sir Ahmadu Bello: A reflection of his mindset on educational and economic development of Northern Nigeria’.

There is also a quiz segment on the biography of Sardauna, where callers can answer questions and win prizes.
“Four invited senior prefects; “Habibu Illiyasu from Govt Day Secondary School, Makarfi; Moses Daniel, Govt College Kaduna; Sadiat Abdulrahman, Govt Girls Secondary School Ungwan Muazu; and Abdulsalam Tolu of Destiny College, will all speak on ‘Emulating Sardauna of Sokoto’s leadership ideology and style'”. 

The Director of Studies, Destiny College, Mr. Akintunde Busayo, said the school as a center of learning for future generation is organizing the one hour live programme to help build the future generation and ensure they sustain the legacy left behind by the late leader.

Meanwhile, Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, (SABMF) has pledged its support for the radio show in a bid to sustain the legacy left behind by the late Premier of Northern region, Sir Ahmadu Bello.

Managing Director of the Foundation, Dr. Ali Shettima Aji, said the late Premier set up a region that became a standard for others to follow, adding that there is a need to sustain it. Aji, who was represented by the Foundation’s Director of Finance and Administration, Barnabas Omali, added that the Foundation will support young visionaries like Destiny College Press Club members to bring back the glory and honour the region was known for.
