30 people killed, 245 injured in auto-crash in Gombe-FRSC

Federal Road Safety Corps in Gombe state has said, 30 people lost their lives and 245 were injured in 57 crashes involving 91 vehicles in the state in first quarter of 2019.

The state sector commander FRSC, Dr Godwin Omiko in Gombe stated this in Gombe on Monday during a press briefing as part of activity to mark the 2019 United Nations global road safety week.

 He said, “a total of 57 crashes involving 91 vehicles, killing 30 persons while 245 persons were injured, in the first quarter of 2019 we recorded and in 2018 last quarter reports of road traffic crashes shows that 71 crashes were reported involving 96 vehicles killing 30 persons while 218 were injured.

The sector commander said road traffic injuries was identified as the leading killer of children and young people between ages 5-29 globally.

“In spite progress made in many countries recent studies shows that road traffic injuries are now the leading killer of children and young people between the age of 5 and 29 globally,” he said.
