2023 polls: Akwa Ibom governor heaps blame on INEC over BVAS errors

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state has described complaints attributed to BVAS as human and not necessarily the machine’s fault.

Emmanuel said this in an interview with newsmen on the conduct of the presidential and national assembly elections held across the country on Saturday.

He said that a lot of the INEC ad hoc staff were not conversant with novel BVAS machines introduced into the elections this year.

The governor, however, blamed INEC as they were the ones that recruited and trained these ah hoc staff, adding that they should have been exposed to the BVAS technology.

“A lot of these complaints we need to check and find out whose fault, not just to blame INEC for something that is not their fault

“However, you have the right to blame them because they recruited and trained these staff, so they should have exposed them very well before sending them out

“I think in most cases the whole thing is human errors, not necessarily the machines’ faults. I also want to appeal to INEC that with these teething problems they can extend the time of voting,” Emmanuel said.

Emmanuel expressed delight that the elections general were peaceful as no serious security breach has been recorded yet.

He commended the good people of Akwa Ibom for their large turnout for the elections to select their leaders.

He appealed to INEC to extend the time of voting especially, centres that experienced complaints of BVAS malfunctioning.
