2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup: I’ll take only 4 pros to Argentina – Bosso

Coach Ladan Bosso has disclosed that he plans to take four foreign-based professionals to the FIFA U20 World Cup, which begins later this month in Argentina.

The Flying Eagles called up a dozen professionals to training camp with Bosso maintaining the invitations were based on positions in the team that needed to be strengthened.

“I will take four overseas professionals to the World Cup,” he told SCORENigeria while falling short of naming his choices.

Sweden-based central defender Abel Ogwuche must have already booked his place for the flight to Argentina on the back of what he showed at the recent U20 AFCON in Egypt.

However, KAA Gent striker Ahmed Abdullahi, the other overseas-based player at the AFCON, was not even listed on a 55-man professional squad for the World Cup.

Victor Eletu (AC Milan), Ebenezer Akinsanmiro (Inter Milan), Emmanuel Umeh, Tochukwu Nadi (Botev Plodiv) and Michael Ologo (Istanbulspor) are among these pros under consideration.

The Italian clubs of Eletu and Akinsanmiro have so far not released the players to the national team, while the Botev Plodiv pair of Umeh and Nadi trained with the Flying Eagles for the first time Monday.

The Flying Eagles will depart the country Saturday night to Argentina with 25 players and will be expected to submit a final 21-man squad for the World Cup on May 10.
