2 ‘cultists’ docked for ‘murder’

Two suspected cultists, Samuel Stanley, 28, and Wisdom Peter, 19, were yesterday arraigned before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stabbing a man to death with a knife.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Ajibade, who did not take the pleas of the accused, remanded them in Ikoyi Prison pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Ajibade, who said the case file should be duplicated and a copy forwarded to the office, adjourned till August 2.
Blueprint gathered that the accused, who is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder, had mistaken the victim, Adedeji Femi, for a member of a rival cult.
According to the Police Prosecutor, Maria Dauda, they had launched an attack on people they thought were members of a rival cult and in the process stabbed Femi on the chest with a knife.
She said the offences were committed on June 1, 2018, about 8:30pm at Agbaro-Ojo, Ikorodu, and contravened Sections 223 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The offence carries a death penalty.
In a related development, a 29-year-old unemployed man, Suileman, who allegedly sneaked into a shopping plaza and stole three cartons of Spaghetti, has been charged before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, who is facing a charge of stealing, however, denied the charge.
Police Prosecutor, Akpan Ikem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 21, 2018, at Ajun Plaza in Gbaji Area of Badagry.
According to him, the accused stole the items from the shop of the complainant, Miss Gbemi Adoveh, who reported the matter to the Police.
