Super Eagles new coach: Sports Minister wades in, gives NFF fresh conditions

As the nation awaits who will be name as the new Super Eagles gaffer in the next few days, the Sports Minister Senator John Owan Enoh has given the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) fresh conditions that must be met by the federation.

This followed his meeting with an NFF delegation led by president Ibrahim Gusau and members of the Technical Committee with the General secretary, Dr, Mohammed Sanusi on Thursday in Abuja at the Minister’s Office at the National Stadium, Package A, Abuja.

Blueprint correspondent reliably gathered which that the Sports Minister is particularly keen on how the NFF will be able to pay the remuneration of the new gaffer which is almost $80,000 per month with the President Bola Tinubu not ready to pick up the wage bill.

It was reliably gathered that the sports minister told the NFF officials his preferred position on the appointment of a coach for the Super Eagles, which runs against the recommendations of the NFF technical committee t though there was also insinuation that Enoh is also interested in bringing back the sacked Jose Peseiro.

One of the minister’s aide who confided in this reporter disclosed that “ Minister prefers a local coach which many Nigerians are also yearning for”

It is now left for Gusau to either go along with the minister or work with what his own committee has put on his table.

Critics have long knocked the capacity and even the independence of the NFF president.

“He does not have the courage to take decisions and stand by them,” a disappointed official told SCORENigeria.

“Should the appointment of a coach for the national team have taken such a long time if these people really know what they are doing?”

Just last week, Enoh  says the new head coach of the Super Eagles will be announced “in the next one or two weeks” He spoke in a chat with Channels TV on Thursday.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is yet to announce a permanent replacement for Jose Peseiro since his exit as the Eagles head coach in February.
