Zamfara emir advocates police, vigilante partnership

The Emir of Anka in Zamfara state, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmad, has called for a working partnership between the police and members of vigilance groups.

Speaking while receiving the state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed, in his palace, the emir said the collaboration should focus seriously on training and other operational guidelines.
He explained that the state police command was up and doing in ensuring the protection of life and property of the people.

The monarch said each emirate council had set up a vigilance group to assist the police in pursuing their statutory duties.
According to him, the problem with the operation of the vigilance groups was that members lack the basic training and knowledge of the rules of engagement.

He noted that with proper training of the vigilantes by the police, they would be acquitted with the dos and don’ts of security operations.

He said the role of the local vigilantes was crucial in supporting the police in the fight against crime and appealed for understanding and proper partnership between the two bodies.
In his response, the Ahmed assured the monarch of his Command’s readiness to always assist the local vigilantes in whatever capacity to enable them to succeed in their complimentary job.
