We are not playing to win NPFL trophy – Ilechukwu

Heartland FC of Owerri gaffer , Fidelis Ilechukwu says he does not intend to win this season’s Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) diadem.

Speaking to Blueprint Sport after a training session on Wednesday, he said he was only working to make his players imbibe his football philosophy and be able to stabilize the team to make it formidable for the hostilities ahead.

He further said as a team battling against relegation before now, it would be suicidal for him to stick out his  neck for the league diadem when he should be working to ensure that his players put their acts together and adopt his preferred pattern of play, but hoped that they would be able to  put up a challenge  against other teams in the league.

Ilechukwu, who described his league opener with his former club,  MFM   of Lagos as a tough one, said already his former players in the team have called him and said that they were coming to Owerri to beat him and Heartland and that they on their own, are not leaving any stone unturned in their desire to take the three maximum points from them. He added that it would be to his advantage that MFM would be coming with a new coach rather than his former assistant who knew his  football philosophy. ” The new coach will be coming with his own philosophy to match my own and we shall see how it turns out”.
