Tribunal dismisses APGA petitions against 2 Labour Party lawmakers in Anambra

The Anambra State House of Assembly election petition tribunal for 2023 election has affirmed elections of two lawmakers elected under the platforms of Labour Party (LP) in the State.

The tribunal sitting at Awka, the Sstate capital, dismissed all the petitions filed against the elections of Hon Henry Mbachu of Awka South 1 and Hon. Paul Obu of Orumba North Constituency.

The 2023 candidates of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) for Awka South 1, Mr Igwedinma Nwofor and Emeka Aforka of Orumba North had urged the tribunal to disqualify their opponents and eventual winners of the poll and declare themselves as substantive winners.

But for Awka South 1, the three-man panel judges; Hon. Justice L.O Ogundana (chairman), Hon. Justice Usman S. Sakwa (member 1), Hon. Justice A.T Changbo (member 2) in the judgment unanimously struck out the matter, stating that the petitioner Igwedinma Nwofor has no jurisdiction for asking that the Candidacy of Hon Mbachu be nullified as it is solely a pre-election matter, and intra-party affair.

Speaking on the outcome of the tribunal, Hon Henry Mbachu, declared his victory as act of God and extended a hand of fellowship to the petitioner and others to join him in legislative duty.
